Placing an order using our Internet upload service

To upload your digital files to us for printing simply click on the "Upload Photos" header above. If you currently have an account with us there is no need to fill out the address fields on the upload page. We do need your account name, account number and the six digit order number you will be using for the upload. Please contact us for an order number list that is unique to you and please DO NOT REUSE ORDER NUMBERS. If you do not have an account with us please fill in all of the fields on the upload page. If you have no order numbers leave that field blank. We need to have the images in a folder when we receive them.

To set up the folder create a new folder on your desktop using the following naming convention: If Smith Photo is the account name, and 485796 is the six-digit envelope or upload order number, you would name your folder Smit5796. (The first four letters of your name and the last four digits of the six digit order number) If you need to have more than one folder per order add a letter to the end of "Smit5796" (i.e. Smith5796a) to make each folder name unique. Copy only the files we are to print into the folder(s). If you have multiple folders just name them as explained and combine them into the main folder and zip the main folder to create one single file that can be uploaded.

The only way to upload multiple images is to put them in a folder and then zip the folder. You can use WinZip or the Windows zip utility if you use Windows or you can use Stuffit or the MAC OS zip utility if you use Mac. Name the zipped file with the original folder name as described above. Please keep track of your upload verification return emails and be aware that if you send the same order twice it will be printed and billed twice.

When preparing your images please observe the following guidelines.

  • Make sure your images are set up for the correct size, orientation and aspect ratio. Pleas convert your files to JPG before uploading because they are smaller and they will upload and process faster. Please do not send TIF files
  • Make sure the file name has the .jpg extension with NOTHING in the name after the extension and make sure the image really is formatted as a JPG.
  • Make sure there are neither layers nor alpha channels and make sure your images are eight bit RGB. 16 bit will not print.
  • Short file names are preferable. Long file names, anything over 20 characters will be cut off from the back printing, however we have no restrictions on file naming. The file name will be printed on the back of all prints 10x15 and smaller.
  • DO NOT use any keyboard symbols such as #, *, /, &, $ etc. in the file name. Use only letters and numbers with the .jpg extension. Do not try to name your files with the size and quantity of prints needed. Put that information in your order instructions.
  • Make sure the file name on your order form, or upload instructions match the actual file name.
  • All files and disks must be formatted for IBM PC.
  • If you have any questions about these instructions please call to get clarification. You can ask for Roger or Mike.
We don't recommend trying to upload more than 100 mg at a time. Although we can accept more data than that we have found that most consumer ISPs will not allow more bandwith through their systems at a time. If you have more than 100mg of data please divide the order into multiple uploads to avoid errors.

Once you have started the upload leave your computer to do the upload without you trying to do other work on the same computer. If you try to multitask while the upload is in progress errors will result. With some browsers there is no progress bar or time stamp to show how long the upload will take. Please be patient and wait until you receive the "Successful Upload" notice. The time it takes to complete the upload depends on the amount of data you are uploading, your bandwidth allocation from your ISP and general internet traffic. We have found that it generally takes about 15-20 minutes for a 100 mg upload to successfully complete.
